FORTIS House EOI

The Bushfire Building Council of Australia (BBCA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation translating research into tangible action to reduce climate and disaster risk for households, communities, governments and industry. PrefabAUS, as the peak industry body for offsite construction in Australia is excited to be collaborating with the BBCA on this nationally important project.

Based on the experience from the recent disasters such as the 2019-20 Australian bushfires and 2009 Black Saturday, suitable temporary accommodation options and timely reconstruction are crucial to helping communities recover and thrive. Unfortunately, the traditional model of re-building in Australia can be extremely slow. The 2019-20 Australian bushfires destroyed over 5,900 buildings, including 2,779 homes.

Available in November 2021, FORTIS House will make the re-building process easier. The purpose of FORTIS House is to provide all Australians with access to an adaptable, scaleable home that is resilient and sustainable. It will be the first new certified, off the shelf solution that achieves a 5 Star Bushfire Resilience Rating from the BBCA. The Bushfire Resilience Star Rating project is funded by the federal government’s disaster risk reduction national projects grant program.

The Bushfire Building Council of Australia (BBCA) are seeking Expressions of Interest for suppliers in each state to be manufacturing partners for this innovative new bushfire resilient accommodation solution.
