Homes NSW: 

prefabAUS board director David Haller has been appointed Co-chair of the Homes NSW Modern Methods of Construction Taskforce. 

The taskforce will among other things:

  • investigate innovative modern methods of construction (MMC), including modular housing

  • advise on the role MMC could play in delivering new housing sooner

  • examine the highest standard designs in line with the NSW Land and Housing Corporation’s (LAHC) best-practice guidelines

  • investigate a wide range of innovative, high-quality, high-durability and eco-friendly modern construction products.

Queensland Government:

QBuild’s Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) program builds more and better-quality homes in less time to support government housing needs in regional and remote areas of Queensland. PrefabAUS assisted in the initial development of the program through prefabAUS board member Nick Strongman of Sensum. After a successful delivery of the first stage by prefabAUS member companies, in 2024 the program is focusing on design sprints to establish solutions for low rise accommodation.

Victorian Skills Authority (VSA):

Evidence points to the lagging productivity performance of the construction sector internationally. That challenge will be met not only by bringing more production and construction offsite, but fundamentally, by grasping the potential of digital technologies integrated with new business models. 

PrefabAUS Executive Chairman, Damien Crough, is a member of the VSA’s Construction Industry Advisory Group. He was asked to put forward a case to establish a Sector Advisory Group on Industry 4.0. This was agreed and commenced in late 2023. For 2024 the focus of the SAG will be skills required for Industry 4.0 in Construction: DFMA+D (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Disassembly), manufacturing and asset management. This will be achieved by promoting courses and collaborating to drive uptake and viability, developing strategies to increase apprenticeship numbers and ensure access to full scope of work and investigating upskilling approaches (including post trade specialisation).
