Shed House Australia was founded by Rhys Uhlich after his own architecturally designed shed home on Phillip Island, Victoria, went viral and generated national media attention and substantial enquiry. Seeing the opportunity, Uhlich founded Shed House Australia to make the shed home concept accessible and commercially viable at scale. A new management team with significant property industry credentials — including alumni of Mirvac and Milieu, and award-winning builder Matt Menichelli (two-time winner on The Block) — has since joined to drive the business forward. The company designs architecturally considered shed and barn-style homes, manufactures and delivers them as prefabricated kits under its proprietary FutureFrame™ system, and supports customers through the build journey. FutureFrame™ is a precision-engineered, cold-rolled steel framing system that re-engineers the classic shed portal frame with architectural detailing, custom connection methods, and design logic developed specifically for residential performance. The system is claimed to be approximately 32% cheaper and 68% faster to reach lock-up stage compared to conventional construction. Kits are supplied with working drawings, a custom interactive 3D model, an assembly guide, and builder support, and can be built by an Owner-Builder or a Registered Builder. The company reports hundreds of projects currently in progress nationally, and was named Number 40 in the Australian Financial Review Fast Starters Top 100 in 2025.
