Sumitomo Forestry Australia Pty Ltd (SFAU) is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Forestry Group, an organisation with over 330 years' experience and a global leader building over 16,000 homes annually across Australia, the United States, and Japan.
SFAU is headquartered in Melbourne and serves as the holding company for Sumitomo Forestry Group companies in Australia, including Henley Properties Group, Wisdom Properties Group, Scott Park Group, Metricon (51% stake acquired 2024), and Regal Innovations (landscaping). With the acquisition of Metricon, Australia's largest home builder with 3,894 housing starts per year, Sumitomo Forestry Group now ranks first in Australia with over 7,000 housing starts annually.
The company has announced its W350 Plan, a long-term project to build a 350-metre-tall wooden high-rise building by 2041, driving research and development in timber construction methods, environmentally-friendly technologies, and new wood materials. SFAU is developing its first mass timber build-to-rent tower at Wolli Creek, Sydney – a nine-storey project using 1,800m³ of timber to reduce embodied carbon by 30%.
