Circulux by Axion, Western Sydney University (NSW)

Circulux is an innovative prefabricated development by the Axion Team, located beside Tallawong Metro Station in Sydney’s Northwest Growth Area. Inspired by the Latin roots circulus (circle) and lux (light), the design features a circular, light-oriented form that enhances modularity, spatial clarity, and performance. Its geometry supports a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) strategy, enabling repeated prefabricated modules that streamline off-site fabrication, reduce waste, and improve build quality.

Universal design is central to Circulux. The curved layout eliminates sharp transitions, creating legible, seamless pathways. Step-free entries, continuous circulation loops, and inclusive spatial configurations ensure accessibility, dignity, and independence for all users.

A standout feature is the kinetic façade system, powered by smart daylight sensors. These adaptive panels open and close based on sunlight intensity, improving thermal comfort, daylight access, and energy efficiency. The system was automated using Dynamo to respond to real-time environmental data.

The project was delivered through an integrated Autodesk BIM ecosystem: Revit for architectural, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) modeling; Insight for sustainability analysis; Forma for site evaluation; Tandem for digital twin lifecycle data; and Informed Design for early parametric logic. Navisworks Manage ensured coordination via clash detection—delivering a sustainable, inclusive, and digitally intelligent solution.
