BARA-MOD by Connect, Western Sydney University (NSW)

BARAMOD is a modular mid-rise project by the Connect Team that redefines inclusive urban living through prefabrication, sustainability, and digital coordination. Designed around a central breathable void, the layout enhances vertical connectivity, daylight access, and passive ventilation while ensuring perceptible spatial orientation for all users. Arched entrances, transparent openings, and generous voids support universal design principles, allowing intuitive navigation and accessibility for people of all abilities.

The project adopts a kit-of-parts strategy, where parametrically defined modules are prefabricated off-site and delivered within a 3.9m height constraint—minimizing waste, transport complexity, and on-site work. A dynamic façade system, designed using Rhino-Revit workflows, features motion-enabled panels that adapt to environmental conditions, regulating sunlight, ventilation, and thermal comfort.

BARAMOD embraces a multidisciplinary BIM approach, utilizing Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks Manage, Insight, and Tandem. This enables federated coordination across architectural, structural, and MEP systems. Digital clash detection resolves issues early, while smart digital twins support smooth handover and ongoing facility management.

With standardized components, renewable-ready infrastructure, and low embodied carbon targets, BARAMOD offers a replicable and future-ready solution. It stands as a scalable model for sustainable construction, balancing architectural performance, environmental intelligence, and social equity in one cohesive framework.
