Empire Vale School
by Modscape + Modbotics
Following the devastating floods that swept through NSW’s Northern Rivers region in 2022, the NSW government faced an urgent challenge: how could essential educational infrastructure be restored quickly, whilst ensuring future resilience against extreme weather events?
Modscape + Modbotics were appointed by School Infrastructure NSW to address this challenge and demonstrate how a smart building approach could be applied to provide permanent, flood-resilient educational facilities across a six-school programme. Empire Vale School was one of the six schools, demonstrating a site-specific application of a more broadly conceived solution. Combining volumetric modules with panelised construction systems, the project illustrates how prefabricated construction can deliver climate-resilient infrastructure with minimal community disruption.
