Kate Cotter

Kate Cotter is the founder and CEO of the Bushfire Building Council of Australia, which she established in 2014 to adapt the 2 million Australian homes most vulnerable to extreme weather. Kate's vision is to break the preventable, unsustainable disaster-recovery cycle through programs that accelerate effective adaptation of the built environment.

The Bushfire Building Council of Australia is an independent, not-for-profit collaboration of bushfire, flood, storm, cyclone, heatwave, sustainability, thermal and energy efficiency experts.

The Council’s Resilience Ratings and FORTIS programs set best-practice resilience standards for existing and new homes. These innovative programs quantify resilience and customise adaptation actions, for any building. The programs have been co-designed by communities and supported by industry and all levels of government.

Leading multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex risk problems, Kate’s role advances the application of science into equitable and transformational resilience systems and tools, creating measurable value for households, communities, governments and industry.
