Following the devastating 2022 floods that swept through the Northern Rivers, School Infrastructure NSW faced the challenge of restoring school infrastructure quickly while building in resilience against future extreme weather events.
Modscape + Modbotics were appointed to deliver flood-resilient facilities as part of a wider six-school program, with Condong Public School one of the schools rebuilt under this initiative. Core buildings were raised three metres above ground on a steel gantry structure aligned to Probable Maximum Flood levels, with the resulting undercroft repurposed as a sheltered play area. Coloured facade screens reflect local Indigenous cultural groups and school colours, delivered through a combination of volumetric modules and panelised elements at 80% prefabrication.

St. Agatha's Primary School, Stage 3, by Brand Architects/Prefab1
Brand Architects' Stage 3 redevelopment for St. Agatha's Primary School replaced an outdated junior school with a two-storey teaching and learning facility, delivered through 90% volumetric modular construction on a constrained, operational site. The building is oriented north-south to maximise passive solar performance, with solar panels and custom perforated aluminium screens featuring Indigenous artwork by a local Bunurong artist, delivered within a staged program to suit the school's budget.

Fregon Anangu School R-12 Redevelopment, by Sarah Constructions
Sarah Constructions delivered the $30 million Fregon Anangu School R-12 Redevelopment more than 1,250 kilometres from Adelaide, using a 100% volumetric modular solution to overcome the logistical and environmental challenges of one of Australia's most remote communities. Forty-four modules were manufactured at Sarah's Regency Park facility, supported by bespoke post-tensioned precast concrete bases and a split-truss roof system, delivering metropolitan-quality education facilities to the APY Lands.
