Jan Gyrn, Modscape + Modbotics

Jan Gyrn co-founded Modscape in 2006 and has led the company as CEO, Director and Co-Founder through two decades of growth, expanding it from an early volumetric housing venture into a business delivering projects across residential, education, healthcare, social and affordable housing, apartments and accommodation sectors, now operating as Modscape + Modbotics. Under his leadership, the company has developed a design for manufacture and assembly approach that allows almost any building type to be delivered with the certainty of price and program that prefabrication offers.

Since 2023, Gyrn has overseen the development of a 40,000 square metre advanced manufacturing facility at Essendon Fields, incorporating an automated robotic manufacturing line developed with Swedish robotics specialist Randek. The facility was designed to triple the company's manufacturing capacity to around 3,000 modules a year, reflecting Gyrn's long-held view that robotically manufactured, repeatable systems are central to the next stage of prefabrication in Australia.

This investment has delivered measurable industry benefits. Modscape's factory-based approach has resulted in 75% less construction waste than a typical conventional building site, while workplace safety has improved by eliminating live edges and unfamiliar site conditions for tradespeople. Gyrn's willingness to invest in advanced manufacturing capability has helped position modular construction as a scalable, repeatable method of construction across Australia's residential, education, healthcare, social and affordable housing, apartments and accommodation sectors.
