A young family of mountain biking enthusiasts wanted a retreat on a steeply sloping, tree-studded block in Blackheath, in the Blue Mountains, that would sit comfortably within its bush setting while touching the ground lightly.
MODE Homes delivered the home using a hybrid approach, combining volumetric modules with factory-built panels manufactured in Sydney and trucked up the mountain to the site, with 90 percent of the build completed offsite. A split-level design steps down three levels to follow the slope, while a hard shell of Colorbond steel contrasts with Black Butt timber interiors, delivering a striking, site-specific retreat installed with only a 60-tonne crane.

A custom coastal home at Bremer Bay, Western Australia, reimagines PIQUE's Kardonay floorplan across three offset modules to suit a dramatic, exposed clifftop site. Built to BAL 29 using 100 percent volumetric modular construction, raked 3.5 metre ceilings, and a framed master corner window deliver a light-filled, view-oriented home, transported 515 kilometres and assembled on a remote, exposed block.

Timber Ridge Margaret River, by PIQUE
Set in Margaret River bushland, Western Australia, this modular Kardonay home was designed for the owners' retirement years. PIQUE delivered the home using 100 percent volumetric modular construction, adding a north-facing deck to capture sweeping views and northern sun, then transporting it 300 kilometres to a sloping, services-limited block requiring significant site preparation.
